1-testday.jpgThe fascination „Italian Open“ – In most cases, steps backward are something negative that doesn’t signify success and progress. But there are also cases where this is different – such as scooter racing in Italy.
What you can experience in Ottobiano at the Test Day for the Stage6 Cup 2009 strongly resembles the successful 90s in scooter racing. There would be much to tell and to explain, but there is one photo that is enough to show the difference between today and yesterday in Italian scooter racing: it is a photo that was taken on the Stage6 Cup Test Day. Organizers and photographers alike were quite amazed when, at noon on time, they saw a really unbelievable picture. 170 starters, among them also several riders from the German and Dutch Stage6 Cups, had been registered for that day. For the first time in this year’s season, the riders had the chance to thoroughly examine the modifications they had made to their scoots. Particular attention was of course also paid to the scoots equipped with the new R/T cylinders and variators; after all, this test was to count as clearance for the large-scale production if all engines would be able to cope.
Among all the other celebrities of Italian scooter racing, “Mauro Scooter Montagna“ was also participating, together with his team mate Alessandro Blando, who was in top form. No matter how you think about it, the Stage6 Cup 2009 again confirms its role as competition platform for the crème de la crème in the scooter sector, and that without neglecting the beginners, who are the ones who have made this Cup so successful. With four classes – one of them, the 70cc Open, again subdivided in Expert and Amateur – there is something in it for everyone. And the success seems to prove the organisers right. This picture has been confirmed, among other things, by what Massimo Tedeschi from TRT said: “I have never seen a rush like this on a similar event.“ And he is one of those who have been into scooter racing right from the beginning.
Despite the rush, the Test Day was expertly organized and the weather, with its spring-like temperatures, also contributed to the success of this event. After the enrolment, the technical inspection took place with the aim to guarantee that the safety regulations would be met. Then, after a short briefing had been held, the gates to the race track already opened. As usual, the atmosphere in the paddock was very familiar due to the many friendships in the scene.
As the places 1 to 3 and place 5 in the Open Expert were taken by scoots equipped with Stage6 R/T cylinders and no problems had come up, the production of the eagerly awaited cylinders has now been launched.
