On Thursday afternoon we had packed up two vans and were ready to be on our way. After a journey of about 650 kilometres, we were finally there: on a slightly run-down airport, just the right thing for some crazy stunt riders. After we had pitched camp late in the evening, we just couldn’t resist and rode a bit in the dark to relax.
At around 6 o’clock the next morning you could already hear engines roaring. Just like it is usual with these meetings, people were already up and on their scoots. After a large breakfast, we also got ready to join in. The big free practice session was scheduled for this day. More and more stunt riders arrived, among them Meik Appel, who has set several world records with his stoppies. read the rest >

  5. Stage6 Cup Italy - 3rd Race @ Latina International Circuit

    August 22nd, 2008

    Kategorie: Racing

stage6-cup-italy-latina-2008.gif2008 is the first year that the Stage6 Cup in Italy takes place. At the moment, every other cup in Italy is organised by one specific manufacturer and riders are compelled to use the products of the respective manufacturer, which often are so expensive that young riders cannot afford them. This is why the idea to offer an Open Cup - that promotes the competition between different manufacturers - as part of the Stage6 Cup fell on fertile ground. The Italian Stage6 Cup, whose rules are based on those of the German Cup, has quickly become a showdown for the best riders in Italy.

There are four racing classes. New riders usually register in the Stage6 70cc Racing class, for which the Italian Stage6 importer offers a complete tuning package for 990 EUR. In addition to the Stage6 Racing class, there is the 70cc Open Amateur and the 70cc Open Expert, as well as the TCR/Stage6 85cc class. While at the first race TCR looked after the official team, it is now Filippo “Pippo” Costantino who takes care of the team and maintains the scooters. With Mauro Montagna, Diego Calonaci and Alessandro Blando, Stage6 managed to win round three experienced riders. As the third race was held in Latina, a small town at the sea close to Rome, it was clear we couldn’t miss this. And so flights at 30 EUR were booked with the no-frills airline Ryanair from Frankfurt/Hahn to Rome; among the luggage was the R/T cylinder to give the riders a first glance of what would be in store for them next year. read the rest >

  7. Stage6 Racing Cup - Max Speed Festival & Race at Airport

    August 13th, 2008

max-spped-festival-2008.jpgThis weekend (2nd/3rd August), there were even two races we wanted to attend: the Max Speed Festival in Meinerzhagen and Race at Airport in Bottrop-Kirchhellen.

On Saturday morning at 6 we set out from Saarbrücken and everything went very smoothly - or at least that´s what it seemed. On arriving in Meinerzhagen, it felt as if we had ended up in some kind of alternate reality. We had set up the scoot with a 600 m long track in mind that would slope towards the finish, but instead, a 400 m sprint uphill was what we encountered there. Well, it was still worth a try. However, after two attempts with the much-too-long gearing, we decided to park the scoot in the pits and take the DSSC sprinter, which had actually been planned to participate only on Sunday. And it proved to be the right decision: we managed to take class victory and in the end, if it hadn´t been for just 6 km/h, we might also have managed to grab the overall victory from our very strong opponents. read the rest >
